For the first time, a combination of satellite imagery and artificial intelligence algorithms was used to monitor environmental quality in real-time. These advanced systems continuously tracked air quality, identified sources of pollution, measured noise levels, and assessed the environmental impact of the massive crowds. Moreover, big data analytics were employed to optimize waste management operations, ensuring that millions of tons of waste were sorted, recycled, or disposed of in eco-friendly ways. Smart monitoring also aided in crowd control, helping authorities detect and prevent environmental violations, such as unauthorized camping or dumping. Furthermore, AI-enabled facial recognition and GPS tracking were used to locate lost or unconscious pilgrims, ensuring their safety and swift return to their designated camps. This initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to transform Makkah and Madinah into sustainable, green cities that balance religious hospitality with environmental stewardship. The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture confirmed that these technologies will be expanded for future seasons, making the pilgrimage increasingly sustainable.
